Part 2 of the Snowshoe Mountain Resort trip:
Here’s the video from last January’s Key West Race Week aboard the J105 Lucky Dog Racing.
Here’s the final installment from the Vegas trip last weekend: a highlight film of some of the things we saw and did.
Spent 3 days and 3 nights in Las Vegas for JG’s bachelor party. My first time in the city since I was 14 and it was quite different being able to go in places and gamble. We got to see a bit of everything from the south end of the strip to the old casinos on Fremont street.
I’ve finally gotten my photos from Key West Race week posted. Many of them come from screen captures from the video cameras we were running. Hopefully in another week I’ll have the video completed. Some photos of the boat by the professional photographers are here and here.
With racing complete, I had one final day in Key West for sightseeing before my flight out at the end of the day. I visited the Hemmingway house and saw the 6-toed cats and the studio where he wrote most of his books. I also visited the Key West lighthouse and walked up it to see the views of the area. I made another stop to the shipwreck museum.
My trip to Key West wouldn’t have been complete without more problems with flights. All week the winds hadn’t been over 10 knots which didn’t make for great race conditions. But today there were high wind warnings and so the plane flying in to fly me out wasn’t able to land because of it. My flight was cancelled and Delta didn’t have another seat on a plane out of Key West until Monday. So they put bunches of us in cabs and drove us 190 miles to Miami where I was put up in 2-room king bed suite at Embassy Suites. My trip goes on another day…
Next week I’ll be heading to Key West for Key West Race Week. This will be my first trip to Key West and to Race Week. There will be around 135+ other boats on 3 different courses; everything from 72 footers to the mostly professionally sailed RC44s to PRHF-C boats like J24s.
I’ll be sailing aboard the Richmond-based J105 Lucky Dog from Fishing Bay Yacht Club owned and skippered by Travis Weisleder. The J105 is a 34-foot boat that will be sailing one-design (not handicap) against 15 other identical boats on the Division 2 Racing Area. The boat sails with a crew of 6 and I’ll be in the pit mostly helping make sure the sails get up and down correctly.
Throughout the week I’ll be posting updates on my blog and when possible I’ll post updates to twitter (@jondeutsch). There’s a few regatta blogs that will be updated throughout the week with race results, weather, rounding orders and where the full kegs are.
Long overdue is the video from our trip to Tampa last March to sail a Front Runner in the Fireball and Friends Midwinters at Davis Island Yacht Club. My daily recaps can be found here. More photos here.
The reason for the delay is that this was my first and last video done with a FlipHD camera. The file format was un-editable and after countless hours of putting the entire video together only to realize it won’t render because it was MP4. So finally I have been able to learn a bit about video editing and was able to convert the original video to .dv and then re-edit it all back together. This has literally taken me weeks of time to get to this point.
Fear not, I have a better solution for future videos with my new camera that I should be able to edit on just fine.
My family traveled to Los Angeles for Christmas this year to visit my sister and her husband at their apartment on the UC-Irvine campus. Cheryl just finished her first semester in the graduate program there.
After spending Christmas Day evening having our traditional Christmas get together we spent the next day visiting the state park where Dilip works and walking around the beaches of Laguna Beach.
On the 3rd day we went in to Los Angeles and visited the La Brea Tar Pits and walked around Hollywood Boulevard. In the evening we went to the Magic Castle. Our final day in southern California was spent in San Diego at the San Diego Zoo.
Here are the Pictures
I got to spend this past weekend with family in Buffalo to attend the wedding of Andy and Kristin. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding and got some good photos.
